Stuart,

I sent a message to a computer interest group regarding the GEDCOM errors
'missing links' in the files that you sent. The same problem occurred with a
number of files downloaded from one of the other Wiltshire networks, but I
cannot recall which one!

The solution is actually quite simple and I enclose the message for your
information:

Hi Gordon and others with GEDCOM problems from email,

Gordon quickly sent me an example of his problem in getting 'missing links'
messages when importing a GEDCOM file received by email.

It was quickly evident that many lines of text with '2 CONT' tags
(continuation
lines) and '1 NOTE' tags had been wrapped onto the next lines at 80
characters.
The GEDCOM standard imposes a maximum of 255 characters although about 90 is
typical.

I expect that several of you web experts will suggest where this wrapping may
have taken place. In this case, of a small file it was just a matter of
checking
that each line started with a single digit level number and then editing the
remainder back onto the previous line.

The only remaining error was a '0 @S1@ SUBM' tag which can safely be ignored
unless you want to set up a new Pedigree record type for 'Submitter'.
