I don't know of any Brown's in my line yet but you are going back further than I have found in my searching. My father (Chester James Winfrey) born in 1917...His father was Wiley James Winfrey...His father was James ? Winfrey. My father was born in Missouri and they had been living there quite awhile when he was born in 1917. His mother (my grandmother was Martha Jenkins Winfrey. We do have several names in common but my Martha was first a Jenkins. I wonder if your James Winfrey ever went to Missouri??? I would love to know more...Best to you on your search..Tana ----- Original Message -----

Subject: [WINFREY] Middle Tennessee Families

I am looking for information on two people that last name was BROWN.
She was born in Virgina around 1810. One is Martha BROWN who married
Jefferson EARP. I believe they were married in Bedford County, Tennessee
around 1825. I have not been able to locate their marriage in any other
county or state. Jefferson and Martha spent most of their married life
in Coffee County, Tennessee Martha died sometime after the 1870 Coffee
County Tennessee Census.

I am also looking for information on a family that lived in Middle
Tennessee. They had a daughter named Martha BROWN They possible lived
in the Beech Grove area. This would around the early 1800's She was
married to Jefferson EARP around 1826. Jefferson children married had
several children,. two or three married children from some of the same
families. These are the names of the families they married into:
FRAZIER, NORTON, STARNES, WHITTEMORE, GUEST, WINFREY, DOUGLASS, AND
PAINTERS.Jefferson's mother was suppose to be NANCY MOORE. Jefferson
father's name is unknown. I would like to find out which BROWNS could
have been Martha's parents? He would marry Elizabth MANKIN after
Martha's death. Martha died before the 1880 census

I am also looking for a Thomas BROWN (he may have been related to
Martha). All I have on him is that he was married on November 27, 1823
in Rutherford County, Tennessee to Rebecca SMOTHERS.

Rebecca SMOTHERS was a sister of Wilky SMOTHERS that married James
WINFREY also of Coffee County, Tennessee. Some of James and Wilky's
children married Jefferson EARP children. James and Wilky (SMOTHERS)
Winfrey had the following children: Martha Jane-married William
Washington "Wash" EARP, Nancy Rebecca Ann-married Neaploean PATE, John
Winfrey, Mary married William A. EARP [cousin to "Wash" EARP], Samuel
"Polk" Winfrey, and Annie married James W. Winfrey. These are the ones I
know of.

Any information on these families would be appreciated. Spelling of
names may vary. Thanks in advance.

Jackie
