I know some of you have done research on Candian immigrants. Can anyone
help John with this: Contact him at <>
Hi Jack,
I am trying to make a connection between the many Wynns that reside in
Northwest Ireland (Sligo, Leitrim, counties, etc.) and the family of Owen
Wynn who emigrated from Wales to Ireland c.1650s as part of the English
landlord system . According to a history that I have, the Wynn surname
was first used by Sir John Wynn of Llanrwst, Wales ,one of the Welsh
magnates who rose to power while the Tudors wore the crown. He was a
descendant of Owen Gwynedd which became the family of "Wynn of Gwydir".
By the way , the Gwydir Castle still stands, though in need of repair. I
visited there a few years ago.
What can you tell me about Wynn history? I assume that we are all
collateral relatives of Owen Gwynedd. What do you think?
Regards, John
Happy Hunting!!
