Hello. I am new to this list and would like to post my Vernon County
ancesetors:

Samuel Wilson VanDyke born June 28, 1846 in Springville, Jefferson Township,
Vernon County, WI. Samuel married Mary Jane "Polly" Marker on March 30 1867
in Springville. Samuel died December 29, 1910 in Springville and is buried
in the Springville Cemetery. Mary Jane Marker was born February 24, 1849 in
Ligonier, Noble County, Indiana. She died January 5, 1931 in Viroqua, WI
and is buried in Springville Cemetery. Her parents are Seymour Moses Marker
and Mary Ann Mayberry. Samuel and Mary Jane had 2 children that I have come
across: Sylvanus Alexander (my gg-grandfather) and Mary Loretta Josephine.
They married a sister and brother: Mabel Ellen Larry and Jared James Larry.

Margaret "Peggy" DeGarmo is my 5th great grandmother. She was born December
5, 1806 in Pennsylvania to Samuel DeGarmo and Elizabeth Grimes. She married
Peter O'Leary about 1836 in Perry County, Ohio. They had a child, James
Peter O'Leary, born June 26, 1838 in Perry COunty, Ohio. The father, Peter,
I believe died in Ohio. Margaret remarried to Thomas Martin Downey on
January 9, 1854 in Perry COunty, OH. The family is believed to have come to
Vernon County sometime in the fall of 1860.

James Peter O'Leary was supposed to have been one mean man. He shot his
half brother because he wanted the brother's wife. Common Logic?? Anyhow,
the half brother didn't die, so James Peter must not have been a good shot.
James Peter was married to Rachel Shilling on June 15, 1854 in Perry County,
Ohio. They were divorced December 18, 1871 in Wisconsin. James Peter's
second marriage was to Mary Elizabeth Hanchett on April 15, 1876 in
Herseyville, Monroe County, WI. James Peter died on April 17, 1902 in
Sparta, Monroe County, WI.
