That sounds like a useful tool. We have several of the "Atlantic Bridge to Germany" books. They have good maps too and are available from Monda Genealoga Ligo in Salt Lake City Utah. We picked them up at genealogy conferences. But I expect they are available on line on genealogy book sites.
>From the book that has Braunschweig/Brunswick I find that that Holzminden is both a Kries and a town. I think this is the place to start to look for the Ruhsams from the information we got through our cousin. I have to get some of the books back from our daughter before I can comment on other places for other ancestors. Are you aware that these people came over fairly early for major German migration ? By that I mean 1840's as opposed to 1880s.
We have a very good book for reading German script. It is "If I Can, You Can Decipher Germanic Records" by Edna M. Bentz it is available from her at 13139 Old West Ave. San Diego, CA 92129. If that address is not good anymore, I have seen the book advertised in Everton's magazine.
