I am interested in this Angel story. It's so appealing! A search on the
IGI throws up lots of Angels and Angles. As well as - highlighting one of
the flaws of the IGI - "Llew ap Llyminod Angel" and "Mrs Llew ap Lliminod
Angel" married "about 960"!
It would be worth doing a bit of a one name study of the name and getting
all the references you can to Angel/Angell across Wales, for example the
different consistory court will indexes &c. The National Library can be
exceptionally helpful in replying to postal or email enquiries, especially
where they concern requests for very specific information with lots of
background.

PS Try the PRO and A2A as well: Here's something interesting from A2A from
East Sussex Record Office
The Earl of Northampton and others (officers of the Greencloth?) to the
Mayor and Jurats of Rye. - ref. RYE/47/67/2 - date: 1604, November
"Wheras upon complainte made of the scarcitie, badnes, and dearnes of sea
fish in the service of his Majesty's house wee sent our letters unto you in
June last by Richard Merredeth, clarke of his Majesty's Accatorye, and
William Angell, his Majesty's fishmonger, to enquire and examine the reasons
and causes therof and to certefie to abuses (yf any were) to the end wee
might prevent by due punishment any which should goe about to hinder the
good of his Majesty's service therin, wee find uppon their certificate that
by reason of a great nomber of buyers who doe buye fishe for the Fishmongers
of London, and contrarie to all good order doe secretlye combyne with the
fishermen to keepe back in their houses and shoppes their best fish to be
convayed and carred to London..."
There are other examples of Angel being used as a christian name. I wonder
if that is anything to do with the first Elizabethan age's fixation with
angels? The name Gabriel also became very popular.
