I am sure John is correct because historically Ysbyty Ystwyth was a
perpetual curacy with Ystrad Meurig annexed to it. Assuming that the census
enumerator followed the pattern set in ecclesiastical records, "Spity" (or
"Sputy") would have been an accepted variation of Ysbyty Ystwyth. Ysbyty
Cynfyn also appeared as "Sputy Cenfyn" and "Spyty Cenfyn" but never
abbreviated to the single word.
