Thank you so much for your detailed reply. You have produced so much new information in such a short time that it will now take me some time to reassess the Pearson family at Llanfachreth.

I regret that at this time I have no further information on the parentage of Richard Humphreys supposedly born Llanfachreth 1831. The 1861 Census for Corwen, London Rd lists him as being born at Llanfachreth. However the 1871 Census shows his place of birth as Dolgellau. Both of these Census transcriptions courtesy of Doreen and John, Hamilton, Canada.

I will communicate again after receiving confirmation from the marriage certificate of Charlotte Williams but meantime thanks once again for the information..

Sorry for taking so long in replying to you on this one.

If your Gwen is the Gwen christened at Llanfachreth on Apr 4 1831 Gwen daughter Griffith & Charlotte Williams Tyddyn Bach Coachman, I would agree that she is one of the Pearsons of Tyddyn bach.(Her marriage certificate should confirm that Griffith is her father). Charlotte, is not the most common of names in Llanfachreth, but a Charlotte Pearson is recorded as a witness to a marriage in Llanfachreth on 2nd October 1829. And there is a record of her own marriage to Griffith Williams in Llanfachreth on 15th September 1830, which is witnessed by a Mary Pearson.

Llanfachreth Bishop's Transcripts (BTs) have a marriage for:
Edward Pearson Bat & Gwen Roberts Spr both of Llanfachreth by Licence Jan 17th 1799
Gwen is latter recorded as having been buried on April 1st 1825 aged 57 at Llanfachreth. This is confirmed by a grave stone in Llanfachreth church yard (from Gwynedd Family History Society's transcription of Memorials at St Machreth's Church)

To the memory of Gwen Pearson Tyddynbach who died March 27th 1825 aged 57. Also underneath are deposited the remains of Edward Pearson of Tyddyn Bach For many years Treasurer of the County of Merioneth. He was greatly respected by a large circle of friends for his uprightness and honest integrity. Died on 4th January 1841 in the 80th year of his age

Bu'n enwog ei drefniad
Marw ni wnaeth ei gymeriad
Hynod glwys er newid goled.

In a neighbouring graves are

Hre lieth the interred the remains of Samuel Pearson who departed this life on the 10th day of May 1805 aged 72
Underneath lie the remains of Edwd Pearson of Tyddyn bach who died September 8th 1811 aged 37
Thomas Pearson aged 33, 1802.

The BT's have the following baptisms for children of Edward & Gwen Pearson
Jane Daughter of Edward Pearson of Nannau by Gwen his wife Dec 17th 1799
Mary Daughter of Edward Pearson of Nannau by Gwen his wife Aug 10th 1801
Charlotte Daughter of Edward Pearson of Nannau by Gwen his wife Apr 6th 1803
Sarah Daughter of Edward Pearson of Tyddyn Bach by Gwen his wife Apr 15th 1805
Edward son of Edward Pearson of Tyddyn Bach by Gwen his wife 1807 (no date)

I have looked 5 years either way from 1761 (assumed date of Edward Pearson sr's birth date from the MI) but can find no record of any Pearson baptisms in Llanfachreth at that time, neither can I find a Gwen in 1768 who might be a possibility for Gwen Roberts.

It is possible that Edward was born in Llanaber parish, because the burial of Samuel Pearson mentioned above in 1805 has :
Buried May 14th Samuel Pearson of Tyddyn Du Llanaber.
Although there are no pearson marriages in Llanaber in the Merioneth marriage Index.
The burial of Thomas Pearson doesn't appear to be recorded in the BTs for 1802

I hope that this information is of some use to you.

Do you have any details of the parentage of your Richard Humphreys born 1831, as I can't find him in the BTs.
