Thanks again. As you say I now have some work to do.
On the question of spelling, most of these people couldn't read or write so
the name was spelt by the vicar as it sounded. With a name like Sambrook
that gave lots of possibilities.
Thomas' children were baptised as Sambruck, Sambruk, Samruck and Shambruck,
and his son James' were Sambrook, Sambroke, Sambruck and Sawbrook. This
last could be a transcription error though. The regular occurrence of 'Sh'
at the beginning here and earlier makes me wonder whether some of this
family might have spoken with a lisp? It was a lot more common in my younger
days than it seems to be today.
Thanks again. I will let you know, eventually, what I find.
