Hedding M. E. Church was the first church.


Gen. Jacob Swartwood was elected to the assembly.
Hon. William Maxwell was his colleague


Van Etten Township was organized April 17, 1854
taken from Erin and Cayuta and named in honor of
John B. Van Etten.


The first election was held on May 9, 1854 and
those elected were:
