Doneva has supplied a lot of information 'as it is recorded'. I am
personally very interested in the people from this area as this is where I
fit into the family. To get a better understanding for where some of these
places are you must look at this area of New York geographically AND
historically. I wrote about this geographical history in the Fall 2000 Issue
(#61) of the WOHLEBEN/WELLIVER Cousins International Research Group (WCIRG)
Newsletter. If anyone is interested in seeing just that article, please
contact me at and I'll send those pages along.
[They're in a PDF format so you'll need Adobe Reader (a free program) to
read it.]
I am sharing this geographic history to help you other folks understand what
was going on and hope that you can possibly help me figure out where these
people went and if I might tie in somehow. I am looking to connect a Henry
Wooliver (1825-1884). I have much more info but that is not the purpose of
this reply.
As many of you know, New York was 'the frontier' in the late 1700's early
1800's and was undergoing many changes. County and Town boarders were
changing rapidly and often. More in the article.

On the 1840 census, Reuban Woliver and David Wolever are in Mannheim,
Herkimer co., NY (same page).
On the 1830 census, in same town there is: Jacob and Peter Woolever.
On the 1820 census, same town, there is: Jacob Woliver, Peter Woliver, John
P. Woliver and David Woliver. Also; Peter WOOLEBEN and Peter WOOLEBEN. One
of the Peter Wooleben's is living in German Flatts, Herkimer county, NY.
On the 1810 census: Peter Woolever is living in German Flatts, Herkimer co.,
NY and Nicholas Woolever is living in Herkimer, Herkimer co., NY and Abraham
Woolever is living in Warren, Herkime co., NY.
On the 1800 census: Nicholas Woolaver is living in Herkimer, Herkimer co.,
NY. Jacob, Jacob and John Woolaver are living in German Flatts and Abraham
Woolaver is living in Warren Herkimer co., NY.
In the 1790 census, Herkimer county was Montgomery county and there we find:
Peter, Peter, Jacob and Abraham Woolever.
Hopefully one of the other "W's" researchers will be able to connect this
family who settled in what is now Herkimer county, NY...but was Montgomery
county, NY. There were there from at least 1790...so, it's one of the early
settlers who we have no idea of what happened to them. Now, maybe we can
connect them.
