I have a very elusive ancestor, George Washington Wolfe or Woolf (b abt
1807 in SC or GA), according to family tradition he changed his name from
Woolf to Wolfe.
The first time he can be found is when he married Eliza Goen in Butts Co GA
in 1831
Then he is listed on the following censuses:
1840 Monroe GA
1850 Sumter Ga census
1855 Macon Alabama
Again according to family tradition he left GA for Alabama about 1850.
Then he died sometime in the 1850s--he was killed in a riot he was a
bystander. Have not found any record of this in the Alabama papers of that
time.
After that he and his wife (who also died abt the same time) drop out of
sight and the children are raised by relatives.
ANYONE with any information or suggestions please contact me. This
ancestor has 2 descendant families pulling out all our hair!
