The Rev. Mitchell J. Bednarski, Livonia: Longtime Catholic priest in Metro Detroit


A funeral Mass for the Rev. Mitchell J. Bednarski, a Metro Detroit Catholic priest, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Transfiguration Catholic Church, 1301 S. Harris Road in Ypsilanti Township.

Father Bednarski died from a cerebral hemorrhage on Sunday, March 20, 2005, in St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia. He was 89.

He was ordained on June 3, 1944 and served in Metro Detroit parishes until 1993, when he moved to the Senior Clergy Village in Livonia and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he remained active and continued to celebrate Mass at various parishes. He later moved to the Maywood Nursing Care Center in Livonia. Survivors include two brothers, Roman and Valentine; and a sister, Celia Jaszcz.

Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield MI.
