Delbert Aubrey Friar, 73, of Austin,TX went home to be with the Lord on
Saturday, May 14, 2005. He was born February 6, 1932, in Elgin, Tex. He grew
up in and around Austin. He was a member of Great Hills Baptist Church. He
enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling with his wife,
fishing, and gardening. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, March 21, 1951, for 21
months active duty and five years inactive Reserve. He received Basic
Training in Hawaii with A.I.T., Air Borne, and Ranger. While serving in the
Korean War, he was assigned to the 24th Infantry 19th Regiment. After
fighting on the front lines for nine months, at a temperature of 45 degrees
below zero, his Division was relieved by the 45th Division on January 9,
1952. At that time, he returned to Japan for A.I.T. His military service was
completed in December 1952. Returning home, he began a long career of
driving trucks for over 30 years, surviving a tragic truck wreck in 1975.
After a disability retirement in 1983, with his devoted faithful wife by his
side, he suffered and recovered from numerous health problems leading up to
his death. During the best times of his last several years, he enjoyed RVing
and fishing in Rockport, Tex., with his loving wife. Delbert is survived by
his wife Barbara Friar; three sons, Audey Friar, David Friar, and Bruce
Friar; two daughters, Diane Evans and Ann Chandler; son-in-law, Dan Evans;
daughters-in-law, Robin Friar, Linda Friar, and Leada Friar; eight
grandchildren, one grandson-in-law, four great-grandchildren; two sisters,
Dorothy Petty and Xenia Schipper; one brother, L.G. Friar; and several
nieces and nephews, special adopted family members Becky Navarro, Gina
Willett, and Romer Galang. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim
Friar; mother, Viola Friar; son, Delvin Friar; two brothers, Alvin Friar,
Vernon Friar; and sister, Geneva Starr. Visitation will be held on Tuesday,
May 17th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home where
the services will be held Wednesday, May 18th at 1:00 p.m. Interment to
follow services at Cook- Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
