Thomas Jennings Tibbets

TIBBETS, THOMAS , JENNINGS A long time San Antonio,TX resident, passed away
on Saturday, May 14, 2005 - 84 years to the day after his birth in 1921 in
Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He grew up in San Antonio TX and graduated from Alamo
Heights High School. His college education at the Universities of Texas and
Colorado was interrupted by World War II. As navigator on the crew of a
B-29, he flew 25 missions over Japan, finishing the last one just hours
before Japan surrendered. For his service, he received the Air Medal and the
Distinguished Flying Cross. The joys of Toms life were his family and his
many friends around the world, traveling, Broadway show tunes, playing
bridge, the San Francisco Giants, the New York Times crossword puzzle, Big
Band music and very dry martinis. He was the life of the party wherever he
went and his intelligence, humor and gentle kindness will be greatly missed
by everyone who knew and loved him. Tom was preceded in death by his
parents, Ernest Roy and Hazel Jennings Tibbets; his sister, Helen Tibbets
Ford and his brother, Charles Robert Tibbets. He is survived by his niece,
Joan Tibbets Hudson and husband, Chuck, of Dallas; his nephews, William T.
Ford and wife, Ann; Charles T. Ford; Philip Hunt Ford and wife, Madeline;
Michael R. Tibbets and wife, Marcia; and many great and great-great nieces
and nephews. Toms family wishes to express special thanks to his dear
friends, Jerry Bragg and Carla Harman for their love and support of Tom,
especially during the last year of his declining health. The family requests
that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UNICEF, 333
East 38th Street, New York, NY 10016 or Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax
