Marine Lance Cpl. John T. Schmidt III, 21, died on May 11, 2005, while
hospitalized in the Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, San
Antonio, Texas, as the result of injuries suffered from a bomb blast in Iraq
on January 30. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Jimenez, stepdad, Dr.
Eric Jimenez; stepbrother, Dan Jimenez, all of Brookfield, Conn.; father,
John T. Schmidt II of Bunnell; grandparents, Richard and Jean Backlund of
St. Augustine Beach; aunts, Joann Toth of Palm Coast and Denese Richmond of
Winter Springs, Fla.; uncles, Guy Backlund of Boston, Mark Backlund of
Brooklyn, N.Y.; and cousins, Chelsea Hutt, Blake Richmond, Jeremy and
Jeffery Toth. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
