Earl C. "Mac" McComis, of Austin, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2005, at
the age of 75. Mac was born on March 22, 1930, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Ora
and Lona McComis. He served his country proudly as a flight engineer in the
United States Air Force. His passion for flying continued after the
military, so he spent over twenty years flying all sorts of aircraft. He was
also owner and inspector of McComis & Company, serving the building
industry. Mac was a member of the Austin Builders Association and a faithful
member of Riverbend Church. He also enjoyed building model airplanes,
staying fit, was a big fan of John Wayne, and loved spending time with his
grandchildren. To his daughters he was all of these things, but in their
minds he was more, he was the most wonderful father a daughter could have.
They will miss him terribly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his
brother, Curtis P. McComis. Mac is survived by his daughters; Marcy Calhoun
and husband, Charlie, Sheila Otterpohl and husband, Ed, and Teresa
Touchstone; grandchildren, Adriene, Megan, Dylan, E.J., Marley, Zachary,
Joshua, Maya and Taylor; great grandson, Jacob; great granddaughter to be,
Marissa; sisters, Alberta Smith of Plainwell, Mich., and Shirley Okeley of
Delton, Mich.; brother, Carl McComis of Parchment, Mich.; and many nieces,
nephews, friends and extended family. The family will receive friends from
6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral
Home where services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2005,
with Larry J. Foster officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Cook-
Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the
American Cancer Society.
