Hymie A. Sikes, 74, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital
in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Jacksonville and
Glennville most of his life. He was a retired truck driver, and attended
Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Troy and Cora Sikes, and a brother, Curtis Sikes.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Alan Layne of
Vidalia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Myra Sikes of Glennville
and James and Sandy Sikes of Vidalia; two sisters, Betty D. Kilby and
Annette Sikes, both of Glennville; two brothers, C. J. Sikes and Billy
Sikes, both of Glennville; his companion, Elizabeth Berntson of Glennville;
nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, at Carter Funeral
Chapel, with the Rev. Reuben Cason officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Free
Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Sikes; Grady Brannen; Charles Calhoun; Ricky Dukes,
Jr.; Jerry Sikes; and Paul Purcell.

Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the
arrangements.
