Family-Placed Obituary

Daniel Carl Degan, Jr. Carl Degan past away on Thursday, July 7, 2005. He
was born on April 30, 1928, in Lewisville, Texas to Crystal and Carl Degan,
Sr. He is survived by his wife, Betty, his daughter Karen and son-in-law
George Hammond, his son Dan and daughter-in-law Cheryl, and three
grandchildren, Jason Hammond, Whitney and Alex Degan. He was a graduate of
Lewisville High School and Texas A&M University where he received a degree
in civil engineering. After graduation, he was employed by the Texas Highway
Department and Gulf Oil Corporation. He returned to Lewisville in 1961 and
joined his father and uncle, James Degan, in the Lewisville Feed Mill and
other family business ventures. In 1978, he sold the Feed Mill and pursued
other business opportunities. He was instrumental in the founding of several
banks in the area and served on their boards of directors. He assisted in
the creation of the Denton County Appraisal District and, in 1985, served as
president of the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts. He also served as
a director of Flow Hospital in Denton, was a Lewisville City Council Member,
and was active in many other civic and charitable organizations. He was
selected Man-of-the-Year by the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce. The family
will receive friends on Sunday, July 10, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m., at the
Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas. Funeral services will by
held on Monday, July 11, at the First Methodist Church in Lewisville at
10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of
the Lewisville Public Library.
