AMANA, Iowa - Esther Mary Ahrendt, 80, formerly of Luverne, Minn., died
Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Esther Deitermann was born June 11, 1919, in rural Le Mars, Iowa. She
married Herbert Ahrendt on April 14, 1941, in Luverne. The coupled farmed in
the Luverne area.

In November 1965, they retired and moved to Luverne. She worked as a
housekeeper at St. Catherine's rectory, and also as a photo processor and
sales clerk at Myhre Studio. She retired in 1993.

In the fall of 1996, she moved to Hillsboro, Ore., and in 1997 she moved to
Amana, Iowa. In September 1997, she lived in Hillsboro but returned in May
1998. She moved into the Colonial Manor of Amana, Iowa.

She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Luverne, former
president of her circle and a former member of Luverne's Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a son, John of Schaumburg, Ill. two daughters: JoAnn Utter
of Hillsboro, Ore., and Lorna Baugh of Amana nine grandchildren six
great-grandchildren a brother, Cyril Deitermann of Luverne four sisters:
Junella Van Belle of Luverne Martha Steinhoff of Adrian Angeline Willers of
Beaver Creek and Lillian Willers of Luverne.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic
Church, Luverne, with burial in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 6 to 8
p.m. at Holm-Dingmann Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 Tuesday
at the funeral home. Visitation continues one hour before services at the
church on Wednesday.
