Gladys Winters, 107, of Georgetown, Ohio died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at
Meadow Wood Care Center in Georgetown.
Mrs. Winters was a homemaker and a 1914 gradute of Higginsport High School
in Higginsport, Ohio.
She was born Sept. 28, 1897, in Higginsport, the daughter of the late
Orlando and Harriet (nee Mefford) Bartlow.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Winters was preceded in death by her
husband, Joseph H. Winters; Katherine Jo Seidel; and one son-in-law Russell
Seidel.
Many Brown County residents were familiar with Mrs. Winters because of her
recognitions at many of the Brown County Fairs, in Georgetown, as the oldest
Woman attending those annual fairs.
Al Rhonemus, an honorary ans former Brown County Fairboard member, said that
he would say; Mrs. Winters received that honor for at least the last seven
years.
"She was raised on a farm right down on (state route) 221 over the hill from
the back part of the (Brown County) Fairgrounds (in Georgetown)," Mr.
Rhonemus said.
He said that even in the last couple of years, Mrs. Winters remembered
coming to the Brown County Fair as a little girl. Mr. Rhonemus said there
probably were few Brown County Fairs that Mrs. Winters missed attending.
Mrs. Winters is survived by one granddaughter, Marilyn Bowen of Georgetown;
one great greatdaughter, Rachel Mayes of Georgetown; two great great
grandchildren, Clarissa and Devin Mayes; three step great grandchildren,
Shanna Cowdrey and family, Curtis Bowen and family; and a host of neighbors
and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2005, at Cahall
Funeral Home in Georgetown. Interment was in Confidence Cemetery in
Georgetown.
