Grace L. Schumacher 1920 - 2005 Grace L. Schumacher joined her Lord and
Savior when she passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2005, in Austin TX.
She was 85 years old. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57
years, Woodrow, who passed away in February 2000. She is survived by two
daughters: Mary Beth Behrent of Austin, and Sharon Williams and husband Don
Williams, of Shady Shores, Texas; five grandchildren, Michael Behrent and
wife Catherine of Granville, Ohio; Matthew Behrent and wife Antonia of
Brooklyn, New York; Megan Behrent of Brooklyn, New York; Mark Williams and
wife Kim of Frisco, Texas; and Jeffrey Williams of Washington DC; and three
great-grandchildren, Christian Williams of Shady Shores, Texas; and Scott
and Taylor Harden, of Frisco, Texas. Grace was born to Taylor and Elizabeth
Burdeaux Armstrong on March 2, 1920. She was a life-long resident of Austin,
a city that she loved. She graduated from Austin High School, where she went
to work after graduation; later, she was employed by the State Comptroller s
Department, where she worked for eighteen years before retiring. For over
fifty years, she belonged to The First Baptist Church of Austin, where she
was a member of the Elizabeth Pool WMU. On April 16, 1942, she married her
partner in life, Woodrow W. Schumacher, while he was on a furlough from the
service. She joined him in Tampa before he was sent to the Pacific. Their
first daughter was born while Woodrow was overseas. In addition to spending
time with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren, Grace loved working in her garden. There she so enjoyed
nature and she found great strength in working with the beauty of all
flowers. She was active in several garden clubs and was the treasurer of the
Capital Area Chrysanthemum Society. The family will receive guests for a
time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 7th at
Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday,
September 8, 2005, in the First Baptist Church of Austin, at 901 Trinity in
downtown Austin, with Dr. Doug Keenan officiating. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made in her name to the First Baptist Church, located at
901 Trinity, and to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund in her name.
