From the Register Guard, Eugene, OR: A memorial service will be held Sept.
26 for Lewis H. Chase of Eugene, who died Sept. 22 of cancer. He was 68.
Chase was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Torrance, CA. He and his wife, Patricia,
were married June 21, 1968, in Las Vegas. He graduated from Springfield High
School in 1955. He served in the Marines for 21 years in CA, MA, NV, and
Okinawa, with two tours of duty in Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart and
two Naval Commendation medals, and retired as a first sergeant in 1976.
Chase received a master's degree in social work from the University of
Oregon in 1983. He had worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in
Roseburg and also worked with at-risk children and youths. He was a longtime
resident of Eugene. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren,
fishing, travel, RV travel, reading, history and playing pinochle, and was
an Oregon Ducks fan. He belonged to Disabled American Veterans, the Oregon
Alumni Association and Trailer Sailors. Survivors include his wife; two
daughters, Pamela Anderson and Gail Whalen, both of Eugene; a son, James, of
Eugene; a brother, Wesley of Everett, WA; a sister, Martha Papenfus of
Creswell; and six grandchildren.
