Jack Ray Schmidt
Born in Salinas, CA on Mar. 9, 1925
Departed on Aug. 4, 2005 and resided in Salinas, CA.

Memorial Service: Thursday Aug. 18, 2005
Jack Ray Schmidt, 80, passed away on August 4, 20005 after a prolonged
illness. A third generation Salinas resident, Jack lived in Salinas all of
his life with the exception of a short stay in Aromas during the Depression.

Military Service starting in 1942 included wartime naval missions from the
Aleutians to the South Pacific Islands as a Fireman First Class. He served
on three ships, including the U.S.S. Indianapolis. Upon discharge, he
returned to Salinas where he worked for Pet Milk Company. Jack then became a
hardwood-floor installer and finisher. His expert craftsmanship is seen in
many buildings throughout the county including, Stillwell Hall, schools,
bowling alleys, and many homes in Pebble Beach.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #31.

Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maurine Schmidt of Salinas, son
Jack Jr. of Oregon with wife Lynette and son Tayler, and David with wife,
Susan and their two daughters, Kate and Hannah. Two brothers, Jerry and
Bill, and sister, Patricia of Salinas. He is preceded in death by his
younger brother, Tom.

Jack loved spending time with his family, gardening, watching t.v., and
eating chocolate. Those who knew him, loved him.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 2:00pm at Garden
of Memories Cemetery.
