Grace H. Brummitt, age 99, died peacefully and went to be with her Lord on
Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Asheville.
Grace was born in Burnsville to Augusta Honeycutt and M.C. Honeycutt, the
long-time sheriff of Yancey County. She was the wife of Fred Brummitt and
the mother of 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Grace attended Duke University where she met Fred, and they were married for
69 years until his death in 1998. Upon graduating, Grace entered the field
of education where she taught English for 29 years. When asked why she
became a teacher, she responded that teaching was an opportunity for
educating and preparing students to face life's challenges.
Grace was a member of the Bakersville Methodist Church where she taught
Sunday School and played the piano. She was also an active member of the
American Association of Retired Persons and was a Grand Matron in the
Eastern Star organization for many years. Grace was a disciplined woman of
unquestionable integrity with a giving heart and great faith in the Lord.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday , December 22 at 3pm at Henline-Hughes
Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Methodist pastor Don Sneller will officiate. Internment will be in
Bakersville Memorial Cemetery. Services by Henline-Hughes.
