Garwood (Ruby) Gerdes
Mrs. Garwood (Ruby) Gerdes Ruby Lee Wolz Gerdes, 88, of Giddings, Texas died
at home on December 28, 2005, after a long illness. Ruby Lee was born on
June 11, 1917, in Burleson County, Texas, the daughter of Lee Wolz and
Millie Wiederhold Wolz. She married her soul mate and love of her life,
Garwood Jennings Gerdes on November 22, 1936, in Deanville, Texas. She was
preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister-in-law, Emmitt
and Gladys Wolz. She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law and
grandchildren, Betty and Ronnie Kubesch of Giddings, Cameron Kubesch of
Bryan, Courtney Kubesch of Austin, and Cara and Jeff Eubank of Kingwood; by
her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Gary and
Dorothey Gerdes of Giddings, Tina and David Little, Peyton Little, and Lance
Little of Round Rock, Lee and Gail Gerdes, Callie Gerdes and Garrett Gerdes
of Lexington, Stacy and Kelvin Brown, Kennedy Brown and Keaton Brown of
Round Rock, Landis and Cynthia Lehmann, Lathe Lehmann, Chaz Lehmann, Cayden
Lehmann and Byler Lehmann of Lincoln; by her son, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, Garlan Gerdes of Giddings, Merritt and Kyle Stokley,
Jaxon Stokley and Dylan Stokley of Roanoke, Jill and Mike McMaster, Jensyn
Reeves and Gracyn McMaster of Round Rock, Garwood Jason Gerdes and Garson
Gerdes of Giddings; by her son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Gardan and
Cindy Gerdes and Will Gerdes of Burnet; and by several cousins, nieces and
nephews. She worked beside her beloved husband, Garwood Gerdes, helping
build thier ranching business and other business ventrues while taking care
of her family's every need. She was "Nana" to most of the children in her
neighborhood and town. After Mr. Gerdes' death, she continued the
philanthropy they had begun. She had a "Texas size" heart. If she heard of
anyone in need, she was always there to give a helping hand. She wa a
devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother,
daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and a dear friend. She was an employer who
appreciated and took care of her employees. She was an example for us all.
We will miss her dearly. Ruby Lee was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran
Church. Upon the family's move to Giddings in 1960, she joined and has been
a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. Services for Ruby
Lee Wolz Gerdes will be held at the First United Methodist Church in
Giddings, Texas on December 31, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at
8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2005 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home,
Giddings. Arrangements under direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home,
