FORT GRATIOT - J. Grant Rumley, 74, of Fort Gratiot, died unexpectedly
Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, in his home. He was born Sept. 19, 1924 in Port
Huron and was a lifelong resident. He married Barbara A. Beatty on Nov. 10,
1951, in the Gesu Church, Detroit. He was a graduate of the University of
Detroit. He was a very active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church serving
as a lector, bell ringer, and a member of the Parish Council. He served in
the U.S. Navy during WWII. He received the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon and
the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with Combat Stars. He was active with the
Old Newsboys. He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Rumley of Fort Gratiot;
his sons, Jeffrey P. Rumley of St. Clair Shores, John Grant (Mary) Rumley of
Fairfax, Va., and Michael J. (Shelley) Rumley of Waterford; six
grandchildren; his brother, James R (Marilyn) Rumley of Fort Gratiot; his
sisters, Audrey (Keith) Park of Fort Meyers, Fla., Patricia (Paul) Delaney
of Fort Gratiot, Jacqueline (Harold) Jellinek of Bethesda, Maryland, Suzanne
Rumley of Port Huron and Mary Rumley of Burtchville Twp. and his
brother-in-law, William Saunders of Port Huron. Memorial services will be 11
a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, in St. Joseph's Church. The Rev. Rene L.
Desmarais, pastor of St. Joseph's church, will officiate. Visiting hours are
10 a.m. Saturday until service time at St. Joseph Church. Memorials may be
made to St. Joseph's church. Arrangements are by Karrer-Simpson Funeral
Home.
