Clarence ``CJ'' Bernards of Renton died June 28, 2004, in Renton. He was 86.

Born Oct. 3, 1917, in Forest Grove, Ore., he married Irene Stupfel on Nov.
27, 1952, in Salem, Ore., and lived in Renton for 52 years.

Mr. Bernards retired in 1983 from management at The Boeing Co. He was a
master gardener and a member of St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in
Renton. He enjoyed growing Christmas trees and collecting pins.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence Bernards, Bob Bernards
and Charles Bernards; and a sister, Nell Ferschwieler. He is survived by his
wife, Irene Bernards of Renton; daughters, Becky Bernards of Tacoma and
Nancy Best of Seattle; brother, George Bernards and Bert Bernards, both of
St. Paul, Ore.; sisters, Dot Kuykendale of Portland, Ore., Frances Grassman
of Canby, Ore., and Therese Bernards of McMinnville, Ore.; and two
grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen the
Martyr Catholic Church in Renton. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at
Gethsemane Cemetery in Federal Way.

Arrangements are by Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.
