Family-Placed Obituary

In the fall of 1912, on September 17th, Ada Corinne Young was born to proud
parents Iduma Delola (Dee) Malone and Claude Elvin Young in the oil boom
town of Electra, Texas. It was in the last house on the northwest side of
Ida Avenue. Asked if she was born in a hospital, Corinne soundly replied,
``No, probably in the kitchen!' Her sister, Claudyne Evelyn, was born on
June 11, 1917, in the same house on Ida Avenue. Soon after the family moved
to Wichita Falls and lived on Nineth Street. Corinne attended elementary,
junior high and high school in Wichita Falls, graduating from Wichita Falls
High School in 1929. In 1929, the Young family moved to Abilene where Claude
opened the first Weber's Root Beer Stand at 942 Grape Street. Dee ran the
sandwich shop part of the business. They later opened a second stand on
South 11th Street. During the Great Depression, the Root Beer Stand was sold
to Mack Eplen. In May of 1935, Corinne married Walter Glen Kincaid of
Abilene. Corinne considered the births of her three sons the big events of
her life. Walter and Corinne moved to Pampa shortly after their marriage,
where Richard Fredrick (Dick) was born on August 28, 1936. Walter Michael
was born in Pampa on January 15, 1938, even though Corinne and Walter were
living in McCamey by then. David Young was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on
February 5, 1945. At that time, Walter was working on the Manhattan Project
producing the first atomic bombs, although he did not know that while he was
working there. It was a very top secret project in which very few of the
people knew what was going on. Corinne and Walter were residents of Austin
from 1972 until 1998, and members of Hyde Park Christian Church. Another
highlight of her life was living overseas with Dick when he was in the U.S.
Army and U.S. Air Force. It was a very enjoyable and interesting time for
her. She lived in Germany twice and Italy once. She traveled a lot in
Europe; London and Heidelberg seemed to be her favorite cities. While in
Italy, one trip to Rome provided her the opportunity to see Pope John Paul
II up very close when he exited the Vatican and stopped his car to greet
people outside. She also saw Pope Paul V during a Christmas Midnight Mass
when Claudyne went to visit her and Dick in 1977. Corinne fondly spoke of
several dogs the family had. She was especially fond of Lady, Mr. K,
Massimo, and No Trump. Corinne began a lifelong venture in 1929, writing in
a diary and had a trunk full of them. When asked what word in the dictionary
would best describe her, she thought for a minute and then agreed with two,
fun- loving and feisty. Corinne had five grandsons, Michael, Donald, Buddy,
Dale, and Tol. She also had three great-granddaughters, Jennifer, Cara and
Kathleen; and four great-grandsons, Thomas, Travis, Alex and Bret. Corinne
died on July 10, 2004, at the age of 91 in Abilene. The family requests that
Hospice of the Big Country be included in gifts remembering her. Chapel
services were held for Corinne at Abilene Funeral Home , Monday at 11:00
a.m.
