Pinehurst, N.C. - John Joseph "Jack" McCarthy, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 30,
2008.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Anthony's
Catholic Church by Msgr. Jeffrey Ingham. Entombment will follow at Pinelawn
Memorial Park.

Born in New London,CT Mr. McCarthy was the son of James and Gertrude
(Manierre) McCarthy. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran of the China
Burma India Theatre. He was a graduate of Fordham University and also
attended Providence College and Pace University.

As a longtime international executive, he resided in several countries of
South America and Europe, returning to the U.S. in 1981 as president of
Sterling International Group and corporate vice president of parent company,
Sterling Drug Inc. Moving from New Canaan, he became a Pinehurst, N.C.,
resident in 1993 and was a member of St. Anthony's Parish and the Knights of
Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Mary "Molly" Arabella
Carter; sons, Kevin of Washington, D.C., and John of Boston; daughters,
Patricia, Elizabeth, and Maria Elena "Molly", all of San Francisco; and a
sister, Marjorie Geary of Niantic.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terence in 2002 and a brother, James of
Chicago.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
