Dear Pat,
I don't know just how much research you've done, or where you are, but
this is in answer to your questions regarding the Lott family in Berkeley
County before 1800.
I checked the Reconstructed Census 1774-1810 for the name and found
Jesse Lot on p. 26, 1782. He was somewhere in the 2nd Battalion or the area
west of the Opequon all the way to present Morgan Co. p. 39 1783 shows
Leonard Lott with 3 horses and 1 cow, in Wm. Porterfield's list #16. p. 55
1783 shows Robert Lott in Henry Whiting's list #15 with 3 horses and 1 cow.
p. 57 1783 also shows Robert Lott in Henry Throckmorton's list #16 with 4
horses and 1 cow. Robert may have had two farms. This Robert would
probably be the man that died leaving the family you described. The other
men may have been his brothers.
There is no people named Lot/Lott left in the county by the 1810
census.
I also checked the marriages on CD. Richard Lot m. Hannah Gassoway
Dec. 11, 1780 in Berkeley Co. He may have been an older brother, but naming
her and not him doesn't make sense, unless she was well connected with
relatives in court (as it looks like). The mother could also have been
named Hannah. I suppose you've been back and forth with this a lot.
If this family owned land it was probably sold and a record would
probably be foundwith the mother's name as long as she was living. Do you
think this family came down from PA? Older family records may be there. If
I come across anything I'll let you know.

In the next county of Jefferson there were marriages of Lot girls after
1800. In Wood Co., VA several marriages in the 1830's & 40's as well as in
several counties in MD, KY, NC and TN.
