BURL BUTLER
Burl Butler, 72, of Arnoldsburg Route, Spencer, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at
his home.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Perry and Dorothy Butler.

Surviving are three sons, Walter, P. Butler of Las Vegas, Nev., Dan Butler of
Colorado Springs, Colo., and Roger Butler of North Lawrence, Ohio; three
daughters, Brenda Tyson of Norton, Ohio, Melody Butler of Orrville, Ohio, and
Sarah Saltsman of Marshallville, Ohio; one brother, Gene Butler of Spencer; two
sisters, Bessie Hall and Ruth Yearian, both of Spencer; and 13 grandchildren.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Carl Marks
officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Beech.

GLENNIS CARTER
Glennis Carter, 89, of Aurora, Ohio, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, in
Streetsboro, Ohio.

She was born in Braxton County, the daughter of the late James P. and Florence
Santy Hardway. She was a member of Gip Community Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Nella Champion and Norma Perry, both of
Streetsboro, and Connie Knepp of Aurora; two brothers, Gene Hardway of Mt. Zion
and James Hardway of Elmira; two sisters, Irene Lambert and Hallie Lambert, both
of Strange Creek; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Carter; two brothers, Casto and
Brooks Hardway; and one sister, Nellie Reed.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Hardway
Cemetery, Elmira.

FRANK STACY COEN
Frank Stacy Coen, 68, of Ivydale, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at his home.

He was born in Clay County, the son of the late Floyd and Ida Sharp Coen. He was
a self-employed carpenter and mechanic and made stringed instruments.

Surviving are 11 daughters, Norma Westfall of Maysel, Paula Metheney, Deanna
Hall, Reva Coen and Phyllis Tanner, all of Ivydale, Penny Coen of Chloe, Debbie
Davis of Shock, Stacy Murphy, Melissa Drake and Shonda Tanner, all of Clay, and
Jerri Drake of Duck; one sister, Elsie Behn of North Ridgeville, Ohio; eight
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Otter Lick Church, Ivydale, with Rev. Darrell Mollohan
officiating. Burial was in Coen Cemetery, Nebo.

HARRIETT DOUGLAS
Harriett Virginia Schartiger Douglas, 86, of Minnora, died of a heart attack on
Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1958, at the home of her granddaughter, Mabyn Deweese, with
whom she made her home since the death of her husband 15 years ago.

She was born June 20, 1872, near Orma, the daughter of the late William George
and Martha Jane Schartiger. She was a member of Minnora Methodist Church.

Surviving are four grandchildren, Mabyn Deweese of Minnora, Mae Hicks of
Flenwood, Md., Mrs. Harold Metheney of Barberton, Ohio, and Mary Lee Cark of
Weirton; one brother, Elijah Schartiger of Akron; 25 great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph W. Schartiger; one son,
Russell W. Schartiger; her second husband, Abraham W. Douglas, five brothers;
and two sisters.

Services were held at Minnora Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Cruikshanks
officiating. Burial was in Prudence Chapel Cemetery, Minnora.

FRANCES FREELAND
Frances M. Freeland, 69, of Parkersburg, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at her
residence.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Everett A. and Maysel
White Lowther. She had worked at Goodwill, Canton, Ohio, and was a homemaker.
She was also a member of End Time Harvest Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Wanda Hutson, Joyce Ann Waybright, Margaret Blair
and Darlene Hutson, all of Parkersburg; four sons, Everett Freeland of Cutler,
Ohio, Larry Freeland of Lowell, Ohio, and Gregory Freeland and Roy Snyder, both
of Parkersburg; 31 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one brother,
Donald Morris of Parkersburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elza Freeland; infant twins, Larry and
Gary Lee Freeland; two grandsons; one great-grandson; one sister; and one
brother.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 3:30 p.m., at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home,
South Parkersburg, with Rev. Frena Morehead officiating. Visitation was
scheduled Wednesday, noon to 3 p.m., at the funeral home.

RHODA BLANCHE JONES
Rhoda Blanche Jones, 86, of Leading Creek, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at her
home.

She was born on Yellow Creek, the daughter of the late Arthur Bailey (Doc)
Richards and Indiana Taylor Richards. She was a housewife.

Surviving are four daughters, Shirley Taylor and husband Douglas and Betty
Jenkins and husband Eddie, all of Big Bend, Wanda Dye and husband Keith of
Midland, N.C., and Carol Ritchie and husband Tommy of Hawkinsville, Ga.; three
sons, Darl Jones and wife Carol of Statesville, N.C., Russell Jones and wife
Vickie of Big Springs and Donald Welch and wife Lola of Macon, Ga.; one
daughter-in-law, Fumiko Welch of Mt. Zion; 19 grandchildren; one
step-grandchild; 20 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Welch; her second
husband, Harley Jones, Apr. 28, 2001; one son, William F. "Bill" Welch; two
granddaughters, including Debra Taylor Fowler; six sisters, Minnie Eagle, Eliza
Jane Wilson, Dessie Goodnight, and Alma, Thelma and Opal, who died in infancy;
and five brothers, Willard and Lester Richards, and Oakie, Carl and Kenneth, who
died in infancy. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Larry Jones
officiating. Burial was in Goodnight Cemetery, Big Bend.

GERALDINE MOORE
Geraldine Hersman Moore, 81, of Frametown, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at home.

She was the daughter of the late Garnett and Fanny Hersman. She was a member of
Rosedale Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was
a 4-H leader and also taught Sunday School at Mt. Zion Church.

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, (Roger) Monroe Moore; one son, Lawrence
W. Moore of Frametown; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances Mowery of
Parkersburg and Louvern Bragg of Clarksburg.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at Rosedale Baptist Church, with
Elder Larry Fisher and Elder George Rose officiating, and burial in Mt. Zion
Cemetery.

PARK RIGGS
L. Park Riggs, 63, of Hur, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, [1958], in the veterans
hospital in Richmond, Va.

He was born April 15, 1895, near Hur, the son of the late Henry and Myra Moore
Riggs. He was a member of Bryner Chapel, near Hur.

Surviving are his wife, Roxie Cooper Riggs; three sons, Leon Riggs of Oceana,
Burl Riggs of Akron and Leo Riggs of Reedy; two daughters, Helen Kerby of
Annamoriah and Millie Wix of Barberton, Ohio; two brothers, Branson Riggs and
Lester Riggs, both of Annamoriah; and one sister, Bessie L. Bower of Vienna.

Services were held at Bryner Chapel with Rev. Gayle McHenry officiating.

Susie V. Starcher, 81, of Spencer, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at home.

She was born in Leatherbark, the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and
Arthelia Kerby Roach. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church,
Spencer.

Surviving are three daughters, Reta Carol Wycoff of Columbus, Ohio, Lois S.
Cashdollar of Cross Lanes and Norma S. Harper of Spencer; four sons, Ronald R.
Starcher, of Falling Waters, Larry V. Starcher of Cross Lanes, Andrew Jackson
Starcher of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Warren E. Starcher of Spencer; two
sisters, Sadie Wagoner of Parkersburg and Myrtle McCauley of Ravenswood; 20
grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Earline Starcher, in 1978; one
sister Hattie Whiting; and two brothers, Denver and Denzil Roach.

Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Victor
Hayes officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.
