Do you suppose a license was applied for and the marriage never took place?
Did a minister/JP return it to the courthouse(s)? Marriage licenses are
applied for and never used - or, maybe the couple was remarried in the
other state to satisfy relatives and thought it necessary to apply for yet
another license - was there a space for "former" marriages on an
application that year?
