Many thanks to all of you that let me gently realize that New Creek is today
in Mineral County instead of Hampshire County where I was looking for it.
Now that I found it on the map thanks to your help<g>, I am wondering if
anyone can point me to a good resource regarding travel to Ohio about 1810.
The Sheridan family seems to have been in Hampshire County until about 1810.
In abt. 1811, a child was born in Maryland. By 1814 the family was in
Tuscawaras Co., Ohio and eventually settled in Richland/Ashland Co. Ohio abt
1820.
In looking at the Handy Book for Genealogists, the New Creek area seems
relatively close to the Old Northwestern Turnpike which seems to pass through
Maryland with a western terminus in Parksburg. Was this route in use at this
time? I am interested in how long would such a journey would typically take
and other such information. Any reference suggestions?
Thanks again for sharing so much information with me.
Phyllis
