I got this info during my recent genealogy research trip. This info came
from the WV Archives in Charleston, WV. I highly recommend a trip there.
The grounds are beautiful. The staff is friendly. You will notice these
are from the Morgan Messenger newspaper. If you have Morgan County family
and haven't found info elsewhere, I recommend trying this paper. It is
available at the WV Archives and at the Martinsburg, WV library.
The WV Archives have a wonderful death certificate archive, starting with
1917 (by year for the entire state). I was looking for William S. COMBS
death info, and found this index to be invaluable. I didn't find him by the
way. Did find he was listed in the Morgan Messenger as not paying his taxes
for 1932 at Lineburg, WV. He reportedly died in 1933.
The Archives also has the Morgan County death records on Microfilm (going
back to mid 1800's). I found some people there, but not my William S.
COMBS. That set of films is invaluable as well. They also have the 1900
and 1910 Soundex index. It lists the names by Soundex code, then
alphabetically. It is really useful.
