Hi Karen,

One thing you might try is contacting Hancock County Courthouse and ask
about the TAX records for the years that you think George Carlyle was
operating his business. No matter what else was happening, there were always
taxes.
The tax records might even tell you the exact location of the manufactory,
and his home. (Not all tax records are created equally, so you can never be
real sure what you're going to find). But if he had a house, and a place of
business, you can be certain that he paid taxes.
