Eva June Parsons Shinn, 75, of Evans, WV, was at peace, with her family by her side when she began her final and wonderful journey into eternity on April 16, 2004 at her home, following a brief illness.

She was born September 4, 1928 in Liverpool, a daughter of the late Kenna B. and Rose (Mullinex) Parsons.

She was a retired cook from the Jackson County School system with 32 years service, and had been a local, state and national president of the American School Food Service Association. She had been a delegate and speaker at several conventions and had served as a lobbyist for the ASFSA, and had received their first West Virginia, "Cook of the year" award, and the Louise Sublet Award at the state and national level.

In her memory, Fairmont State College, where she had been a part-time instructor, has created the June Shinn Foundation to aid the West Virginia School Food Service Association, Child Nutrition Center. In lieu of flowers contribution may be made to the June Shinn Foundation, c/o Doris Hardman, 1210 13th Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Following her retirement, she had been very active in school and community affairs, including the Evans Community Initiative, and she served as a volunteer in the museum and served as a docent in the kitchen on Blennerhassett Island. She was active in local politics and had worked at the polls in the Evans precinct for many years. She was also a member of the West Ripley Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter Dianna L. Berry of Parkersburg; sons, Terry Shinn of Walnut, NC, and Frankie Shinn of Grandy, NC; sister, Mary Knapp of Evans; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.

Her husband, Howard T. Shinn, sisters, Juanita Rader and Jackie Shumaker, and brothers K.G. Parsons and Burns Parsons, also preceded her in death.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Pastor Jack Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery, Evans, followed by a fellowship meal at the West Ripley Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Shinn had requested that in lieu of flowers her memory could be honored by having an outing, or other appropriate activity that would unite family and friends. Further contributions may be made to Kanawha Hospice, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.
