Back in 1930/1940, the WPA read a lot of the WV cemeteries and these
readings are on microfilms available to anyone. I've read the microfilms
for Harrison Co, WV cemeteries at an LDS Family History Center. You don't
have to be Mormon to use the Centers (I'm not). If you look in your local
phone book, there should be a Family History Center/Library listed under LDS
Churches in the yellow pages. If the Center doesn't have the film, it can
be ordered from Salt Lake for a small charge, on either permanent or
temporary loan. I don't know which, or how many, counties the WPA read but
it would be worth checking on. It's an invaluable tool, particularly since
the stones were read over 50 years ago when they may have been more legible.
It may also be possible to do an inter-library loan on the films if your
local library had a microfilm reader. I've borrowed Census microfilm
through my tiny local library. Except for reference books which are never
loaned out, you can borrow anything from any library in the US.
Good luck!
