Hi, Everyone:
Regarding the cemeteries, if there is anything in the Moundsville library
besides the 125+ cemetery lists I have online, it will come as a shock to me!
But if that is the case, I hope that someone will send them.
Please, if you come across something we don't have online, let me know... or
copy it and send it! Phyllis Slater and I went to great lengths to get this
project started 4 years ago and MANY people have helped tremendously! And I
have all the records I know about.
Believe me, I/we have not purposely done this the hard way. If there is a
book besides the one Mrs. Briggs gave me, it is well-kept secret. And
while there are record books at some of the larger cemetery offices, they
are not available to copy.
I can't tell you how many people write and don't realize that the lists are
actually online. They think the page is just a list of the names of the
cemeteries.
While we are on this subject, I will ask again for volunteers to adopt a
cemetery and update our readings. This doesn't mean that you would start
from scratch... It would involve printing the list I have online and then
proofreadiong it against the stones in the cemetery. Then you can send the
names I don't have and I will add them to both the cemetery and the INDEX
(which I think makes life as simple as can be).
Again, it would be terrific if the people in charge of the active cemeteries
would use our lists and edit them (or give us theirs) so they would be
up-to-date for all the world. Maybe that will happen in the future but in
the meantime I/we are doing the best we can.
When I was in St. Marys, someone asked, "Have you thought of doing virtual
cemeteries?" This means taking a photo of every stone in the cemetery. So,
NO, I have not thought of that! (The closest we have to that is the RICE
RIDGE.)
Thanks to all for their input on this subject.
Linda
