Hi, Everyone:
I appreciate everyone's 2 cents about the Marshall County cemeteries. And,
again, if anyone wants to adopt a cemetery to update, please do so. - - Take
the current list, edit it and send it back to me as a plain text file.
Just out of curiosity, I asked Karen Hucko how she and James Dague went about
updating the Mt. View cemetery that I recently announced. I knew they had
been working on it for at least a year, probably longer.
I hope Karen doesn't mind if I share her reply:
Linda
I personally went to the cemetery about 3 times and looked and read the
stones there.
I also had a girl send me the burial list for Mt.View from the cemetery
board..I still have the copy.
James also went to the cemetery.
We then went to the courthouses in Marshall and Ohio Counties a couple of
times and looked at the death records...they say where the person is buried
in most cases on the death record in the courthouse.
I also went to the Washington County web page and typed in the word Dallas in
the search area and came up with a few burials.
Also, we copied about a zillion obits from Washington County,Pa., Wheeling
and Moundsville newspapers. I also ordered in the death records on microfilm
from Greene and Washington Counties in Pa....to cover that area, even though
they only cover 1897 to 1906.I also ordered death records at $ 3.00 a pop
from Pennsylvania.
The true readings cannot be obtained for a cemetery by getting a copy of the
burials from the cemetery board. James and I thought when we first received
the burial list, we were in high cotton, then we started digging and we knew
we weren't.
We put a lot of money and effort into the cemetery reading.
Karen
