Hi, Everyone:

Today I received the obituary of Ruthann Buzzard Burton, d/o Charlie and
Mamie Bruhn Buzzard. Ruthann used to write to me in association with the
Marshall County page.

One thing Ruthann submitted was the Autograph Book of Emma Hicks of Cameron.
I had first put it on a Victorian background and Ruthann loved it. Then the
background no longer worked for some reason and I put it on a plain one....
But every time I encountered Emma's autograph book, it bothered me that it
wasn't on a nice background. So a couple weeks ago, as I was redoing things,
I added a background with a crocheted edge and I wrote to Ruthann to tell
her. It was at that time that her husband, Bill Burton, told me about her
death that occurred JANUARY 21, 2001.

I felt terrible that I hadn't known about it! Apparently Ruthann lost her
six year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Her husband sent me her obit and I
see she was born in Wheeling on the same date as my mother, Nov 12, 1928.

I am putting the obit on the Marshall County page and also the WAGS page,
since she was born and raised in Wheeling. For convenience, here it is:

Ruthann Buzzard Burton, age 72, of 817 Orchard Drive, Macomb, died at 6:55
p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2001 at her home.

She was born on November 12, 1928 in Wheeling, West Virginia, the daughter of
Charlie and Mamie Bruhn Buzzard. She married William L. Burton on August 24,
1958 in Springfield, Ohio. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, James (Maggie) Burton of Springfield, Missouri;
one daughter, Carol (Biddle) Gray of Woodbridge, Virginia; one sister, Mrs.
Virginia (William) Crowl of Wheeling, West Virginia; arid several nieces and
grandnieces.

She attended public schools in Wheeling and was a graduate of Tridelphia High
School there. She attended Bethany College (West Virginia) and received a BA
in English from Wittenberg University. She earned a MS in Library Science
from Western Reserve University.

During her professional career she worked at the Library of Congress in
Washington, D.C.; in the Dayton, Ohio, Public Library; the Memorial Library
at Wittenberg University; and the Memorial Library at Western Illinois
University. At Dayton she devoted much of her time to the Bookmobile Service,
while at Wittenberg and Western Illinois University she specialized in
cataloging.

Ruthann was one of the founding members of the Macomb League of Women Voters
and served as that organization's first president. For many years she was
active in the Embroider's Guild and was a member of Macomb Beautiful and the
McDonough County Genealogical Society. After retirement in Macomb she worked
as a volunteer counselor. She was long active in genealogical research and
was an avid gardener, needle worker, and seamstress.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held on
Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., January 25, 2001 at the Clugston-Tibbitts
Funeral Home in Macomb. Ron Green, chaplain of McDonough District Hospital
and the Hospice Program, will officiate, while friends will offer personal
memories.

Memorials may be made to the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program.
