I'm curious about this too. My great grandfather, Nelson E. Cazad was born in 1827 in Preston County. Our original name was Cossart, I think . I believe Cuzzart may be a variation of this name. Nelson's parents could have used the surname Cossart, Cozad, Cazadd and numerous other variations of this name. I have a fairly complete record of Nelson after 1850 but can't pinpoint his early life.
I have been unable to find any record of Nelson's birth or the positive identity of his parents since all records were burned in the 1860's.
I believe Nelson's parent's names were John and Elizabeth or Eliza.
Was there a newspaper in existence in 1827 that may have documented Nelson's birth? I'm asking for some help!
Good luck in your research.
