The Frazier story is complicated to say the least. I'm hoping that other
Frazier descendants might have something more to add. I had made the preliminary
determination that we cannot say for certain that Samuel Frazier, grandfather
to Christopher Columbus Frazier, was the son of John Frazier, Jr. of Augusta
County, VA. The will is of no help, only the children of his brother Samuel
(deceased at that time) and his own brother James are mentioned. If he was truly
married to Jennett Gay, daughter of Henry Gay, there is scarce proof of it. The
Chalkley abstract deals with it poorly and the association as man and wife
can be argued both for and agin.
I can find no official marriage record for John Frazier, only the abstracts
in Chalkley's which list John and his sister Ann as defendants in the the fight
for Robert Moody's estate. If John was married, his wife was not named as a
party to the suit.
I am thinking that DNA may be the only way to determine if the Fraziers of
Fraziers Bottom, WV are descended from John Frazier, Sr. and Isabella Moody of
Augusta County, VA. In this I am running contrary to all others, but the proof
is too thin on the ground to say for certain.
