Help!

Asher Crockett was born in 1760 in Hampshire County, VA. In 1776 he
enlisted in the Virginia line in the Revolutionary War, supposedly to escape a
cruel master to whom he had indentured. According to another eearcher, he
served two enlistments, ending in 1783.
From the book West Virginians in the Revolution comes an entry stating
that he enlisted 1776 in Hampshire County under Captain Fitzpatrick and
Colonel Hite. It also states that he changed his name to Asher Crockett from
James Anderson, ostensibly to avoid the cruel master.
DAR lineage book for 1912, p. 98 says he served as a private under
Captains Wallis and Kirkpatrick in Virginia line.
In 1800, he married Sarah Blankenship, daughter of Peter Blankenship.
Sarah received a pension. He died 16 January, 1846 in Wayne County, VA, later
WV.
Notable Southern Families, Vol. V by Zella Armstrong lists him as James
Anthony Crockett, called "Asher" for short.
Asher stated in his pension application that between 1783, when he got out
of the army, and 1800, when he married Sarah, he went west with George Rogers
Clark into Kentucky.
Asher and Sarah had the following children: Charlotte, Elizabeth,
Margaret, Mary, Peter, and Andrew.

James A. Crockett
