None of us have sent a post in quite a while and I know we have some new
members.
There is a small group of us who are descended from Joseph Yates, who came to
the Albany area about 1654, shortly after the Dutch surrendered New
Netherlands to the English. He married Hurbertje Marsellis Van Bommel, and
they were the founders of our family -- a family that intermarried with the
Dutch to the extent that we are more Dutch than English. In fact there were
so many marriages to cousins that it's wonder we don't all have 3 heads and 2
stomachs. Joseph was one of the first settlers of Schnectady, NY.
If there are any other NY Yates out there, we would love to hear from you to
exchange information.
