On August 16, 2000 someone wrote this list identifying Anna Maria Yocum's father, her father's brothers (including Samuel from the re: line above) and the Yocum line above them. I am trying to confirm the connection between Samuel Yocum, who died in Chester, PA and James Yocum, who was born there, and would appreciate any help anyone may offer. My theory is that they are father and son.
James was born about 1814, married Marry Reed abt. 1842 and had ten children, the eighth of whom was named "Slater". James appears in the 1850 census in Lancaster County and then in North Lebanon County until his death in 1885.
Samuel was married to Margaret Hazzard (or Huzzard), There is a Samuel that matches the age distribution in the 1830 and 1840 Chester Co. censuses, nothing after that (that I could find on Ancestry). The Yocum list August 16, 2000 note says that Samuel died in 1842. Consistent with that, the 1850 census contains a household headed by a Margaret Yocum aged 75 that contains 25 year old Ann and 10 year old "Slater". Based on location, and the use of "Slater" in two generations, I am guessing these folks are connected.
