Hi,
My name is Owen POPE and I am new to the list. I have just returned from the UK after spending two months researching my POPE ancestors.
Samuel POPE b 22/12/1795, my GGG grandfather wrote to his wife in London from Darlington on the 2/6/1832.
He and his brothers Richard POPE b 13/10/1797, John Buckingham POPE b 14/2/1807 and possibly Thomas POPE b 7/2/1809 formed a partnership to mine coal.
After Samuel's death in 1838 Richard and John and others formed a company named POPE and PEARSON Ltd. The company owned Altofts mine and others.
John Buckingham POPE's descendants continued to direct the company and I was able to visit some of these descendants as well as Thomas POPE's and Samuel POPE's descendants while in the UK. But Richard POPE and his descendants have eluded my capture.
Richard lived in Leeds and possibly married Caroline Packham in 1851 I think maybe ???????
Any help or information about my family in Yorkshire would be greatly appreciated.
I do have a copy of the book Pope and Pearson by John Goodchild and Aspects of Wakefield edited by Kate Taylor.
It was also suggested that I contact the Plymouth Brethren Church head office but have not been able to do that either.
