Subject: An idea to calm Yorksgen

Hi
I've only been on Yorksgen for about a week, and have
had one great success in finding a stepbrother I
didn't know I had. I would like to thank those who
emailed me with suggestions of help. However:
Inbetween times, being a newbie, I've read all the
messages posted in order to pick up some tips. What a
shame that the 'majority' of postings contain
arguments, debates, pointless discussions about
opinions - call them what you will - who's right or
wrong, slightly right or wrong, pompous, arrogant,
boasting, unpleasantness etc. etc. and it sticks out
like a sore thumb who's at the back of it all, the one
who I thought was the listowner (Roy Stockdill). Who
is this man? OK so he 'seems' to know what he's
talking about most of the time, and obviously he's
been there, done that etc but to me he's more
'hinderance' than 'help'. So what if he got
unsubscribed, it wouldn't be the end of the world, the
list would be a lot more pleasant, and at the end of
the day, there's plenty of his repeat postings in the
archives if anyone can find anything valuable. I
thought researching was finding out, not 'being told'.
On the other hand, it's obvious he's trying to prove
something by the 'scroll of credits' he puts under his
name - we all know what journalists are like, sticking
their oar in where it's not wanted etc. and writing
paragraph after endless paragraph of bumf which could
be said in a sentence and mean a hell of a lot more,
half of which is probably inaccurate - the rule is
'don't believe everything you read in the papers' ie.
take no notice of it, treat it with the contempt it
deserves, throw it in the bin - because journalists
are only out for reactions - it makes good reading
(apparently).
So, that's my summing up of 'Roysgen', and I suggest
to Roy that if all he's got to do all day is pick and
poke at everyone, put your money where your mouth is,
do some transcribing for a good cause; and then if
you're as perfect as you 'think' you are there won't
be any 'innacuracies' recorded for others to trip
over.
Otherwise, I'm sure they could find you a trolley
collectors job at Freshco's (along with Ken Barlow)
who, co-incidentally, also pretends to be a
journalist.
