We've done this, but it sure is not trivial. If all the data from the IGI
were listed on single lines for each person, it might be doable. Excel's
parse function does wonders for cleaning up data for use in other places,
but only if the data for one person is on a single line.
We ended up writing a database when we were collecting the batch numbers,
but it's useless for anyone else (unless you'd like to spend £300 or so
to purchase the necessary software). If you can come up with a way to
correctly parse through the data to put each person's info on the same
line, you could then use Excel to do what you need. Perhaps there are
those who could write an Excel macro to do this for the specific data
format presented by the IGI information.
Don't feel bad about being stumped -- there seems to be no trivial
solution. We hope you find some way of solving the problem.
