DEATHS
On the 4th inst., at Old Byland, Mrs Holmes, relict, of the late Mr John
HOLMES, innkeeper, aged 70.
On the 5th inst., at York, after a long and severe illness, Mr Tindall James
LAPISH, late innkeeper, aged 38.
On the 7th inst., at Coneysthorpe, Miss Elizabeth COATES, aged 67.
Same day, at Whitby, the wife of Mr John CLIFFORD, builder, aged 53.
On the 9th inst., at Gromont Cottage, near Whitby, Mr Wm. PURSGLOVE, aged
86.
On Tuesday, November 9th, at 3.15 in the morning, the Rev. John HICKLING
finished his useful and happy life in great peace. He was in the 71st year
of his ministry, and would have been 93 years old, had he lived only three
weeks longer. With him has died the LAST of that noble body of men sent out
to preach by the late Rev. John Wesley. His last public service he conducted
at Birmingham a fortnight since, when he lectured on "Early Methodism." At
the time of his death large hand bills were announcing him to conduct six
services in this circuit and Kingswood near Bristol, - He has conducted on
the average 150 special public services a year, during the last three years,
and collected hundreds of pounds for chapels and other funds.
